On February 16, 2009 Mary Ostrand (Dandiefan) died during a fire in her home in Santa Barbara California. The Independent carried the story.
In another story, it was reported that Mary's smoke alarm had no battery in it at the time of the fire.
So please ladies, check your smoke alarms at once!
Mary's constant companion, Caitlin her Dandie Dinmont Terrier was found safely in a bedroom.
Mary was the president of the local AKC club, The Channel City Kennel Club, actively tutored students in mathematics
and enjoyed her life in California.
Mary's love of Colin Firth and Jane Austen Fan Fiction brought her into our world. Mary was a kind soul who was incredibly supportive of the Authors at The Meryton Literary Society and other sites she frequented. She religiously commented on the stories she was reading, always encouraging the authors of the stories to continue their efforts and write more.
[/font] I'd like to think Mary is happily sipping tea whilst chatting with Jane Austen about Colin's portrayal of Darcy,
maybe even discussing MDTAW... with dozens of dandie dinmont terriers at her feet.
Yes, I think that's how I will picture you, dear Mary.
Thank you for the honor of knowing you Mary, you'll be sorely missed by your fellow Firth Sisters.

We are all shocked....shocked and grieved  A Memory lives and will not die...Though I didn't know you very well, I still remember the mails we shared on especially your lovely dog and the love you had for him AND for Colin and FS. I've had a private few inquiries about sending flowers, cards, etc. At this time, I have no information on a memorial service, though I know one is in the works.
However, if you wish to honor Mary's memory, I would suggest making a donation in her name (Mary S. Ostrand) to the cause that was the closest to her heart; a cause she was an active participant in: wethepeopleusa.us/.
Perhaps go a step further and click the "Call To Action" button on the left side of the page and add your voice to her cause. |

I was supposed to have lunch with Mary today. Gosh, I miss her. She loved coming to Firth Sisters. She would pop out her iPod and show me her latest photos and say, "I got this one over at Firth Sisters! Isn't great?"  She was a wonderful lady. Fun to talk to and be around. I thought I would share one of the few photos I have of Mary. My husband Steve, me, Mary and our friend Madelyn's son, Jerrod in the front.  I'll miss you, Mary. You are Top! |
